Day 1.

Discover the Medina

First day, and my first taste of Morocco: I had great fun getting lost among the alleyways of the Medina in Rabat, between the souks and the colourful passageways. These passageways brought us close to the Kasbah of the Udayas, near the sea and an ancient Roman city. Truly magical!

Day 1.

A charming surprise...the Agafay Desert!

Our first day saw us exploring the Agafay Desert and staying in one of the most unique and dreamy eco lodges. We had the tastiest dinner in the evening followed by star gazing before bed. This was the perfect spot to appreciate the serenity of this magical place before starting our adventure!

Day 2.

Couscous and The Hassan Tower

This second day was largely taken up by a cookery class. The famous couscous is no longer a mystery to me! To help us digest the delicious dishes we prepared and sampled, we headed for the Hassan Tower, one of Morocco's most renowned historical monuments.

Camel Ride and Berber lunch

We started the day with a camel ride...our epic journey through the desert led us to a Berber village where we were welcomed into the home of a family and treated to an incredible feast of local specialities. Moroccan hospitality is something else...

Day 3.

On the road to Tangier

After a stopover in Asilah, with its medina's resplendent murals, we settled down in Tangier. An added advantage for this place: the view across to the Spanish coast! We also visited the Cave of Hercules. A change of scenery guaranteed!

Day 3.

Marrakech hidden gems

We began the day in the tranquil Jardin Majorelle. A stunning garden and perfect start to the day. We then learnt traditional bread baking with a local family through Atelier D'Ailleurs . We were also lucky enough to make some Moroccan almond macaroons which were delicious. We spent the afternoon browsing the souk before ending our day making traditional shoes- also known as 'baboush', these colourful shoes typical in Morocco.

Day 4.

Chefchaouen, my great love!

Chefchaouen was definitely my favourite part of my stay in Morocco. Everything there is blue: the walls, the stairs, the doors, the roofs of the houses, but also, obviously, the sky! I left feeling delighted, with three pieces of advice up my sleeve to help me make the most of it!

Day 4.

Ait Ben Haddou and the kasbah way of life

We had the most incredible lunch in Ait Ben Haddou at Tawesna. This is a tea house run by the local women and where we had the opportunity to learn about the Berber way of life. We then explored Ait Ben Haddou which is a Unesco-protected red mudbrick ksar and well worth a visit. It was like stepping back in time, you may even recognise it from Gladiator!

Day 5.

Exhilarating Fes

Fes has the reputation of being Morocco's most dynamic city. And, from what we've seen, it's absolutely true! With its huge medina, markets, craftsmen and welcoming residents, you won't be bored here for even a second. It's also a great spot for a Moroccan shopping spree.

Day 5.

The gateway to the Sahara desert

For the ultimate experience near the gateway to the Sahara desert, we visited Merzouga. We stayed in Tiziri, a cosy camp and the height of luxury. The food was some of the best we've ever had. To bring out our adventurous side, we also had a great time on quads, sandboarding at sunset and ended the day singing and dancing around the campfire which was an unforgettable experience!

Until next time Morocco!

A change of scenery, encounters with engaging locals, cookery classes, meals with a sea view... I leave here blown away by my few days in Morocco. It is a country that should be seen (at least) once in your lifetime. I, for one, will definitely return!

On the way back to Marrakesh, we admired the snow capped Atlas mountains and passed by the Dades Gorge which offers the most incredible views. Before flying home, we stopped in Ouarzazate, another beautiful kasbah village which was a lovely end to the best trip. So much more to see and explore...until next time Morocco!
